A Message from our 2017 AHRMA Chapter President, Karen Smithson, SPHR, SHRM-SCP
As we enter the final month of 2017, we have much on which to reflect, and more to which to look forward to in 2018.
In January, we declared 2017 the Year of the AHRMA Member and throughout the year we’ve invited members to connect – and members to engage. It’s AHRMA Connect – 4 and we connected through serving, learning, mentoring, and collaborating.
Have you found ways to connect with HR professionals and service providers while continuing to identify ways to bring value to your employees and your organizations? We are fortunate to live and work in Central Texas, with a current unemployment rate of 2.9% and an incredible number of people who the local Chambers of Commerce report move here every day. It’s fun to be the “Cool Kids” and it’s also a huge responsibility. Let’s continually remind ourselves to “do the next right thing” for our co-workers, our employers, and our community at large. We’re held to extremely high standards, and I am confident that we’re up to the challenge.
I will resist the urge to list AHRMA’s accomplishments this year, as an organization, because I believe that our true success will be measured by the value that we created for you, our members.
Find time to reflect as well as time to look forward to the best year yet – the one that comes next.
“It’s a Wonderful Life” …
Karen Smithson, SPHR, SHRM-SCPAHRMA President, 2017
